PUREwellness: Luxury Rooms In Crete
I rarely share personal details about myself because I'm just not the social media person that shares every detail of my existence. A rarity...
Today I'll share a few details about myself that you may (or may not) know.
1) I don't sleep. EVER. I haven't slept in years and it has almost become a running joke with everyone that knows me well. Case in point if you email or message me anytime (day or night) i'll answer.
2) I'm on the road a lot! I am actually a digital nomad who has a home base but last year alone I was on the road for 9 months. So i'm on the road, not sleeping. (KEEP READING.)
3) The 9 months I was on the road I lived almost exclusively in hotels because hotels are my niche and what I write about.
So i'm in a constant state of motion and I don't sleep.
What most people do know is that I'm in Greece, frequently writing about the hotel scene that is flourishing in a country where tourism is the most important industry.
No place are boutique properties (with innovative themes) cropping up faster than in Crete (the largest island in Greece, almost a country within a country.)
Crete is the 88th largest island in the world and the 5th largest island in the Mediterranean, after Sicily, Sardinia, Cyprus and Corsica. Heraklion is the capital of the island and where my journey began.
My hotel journey and path to wellness.
I have been to Heraklion many times, too many to count. The hotel scene is coming alive so the past couple of years I've visited a bit more frequently.
A friend mentioned to me that I should check out a local property that offered their clientele something special, something called PUREwellness rooms. Wait. What?
The Galaxy Hotel in Heraklion was where I could find these specialty rooms so I quickly decided I needed to go and see for myself what these PUREwellness rooms were all about.
I decided to research exactly what a PUREwellness room was in advance. I was literally clueless. What I found is that the rooms are treated and by that I mean all surfaces are hypoallergenic, that includes carpets. What I found the most interesting was that the air was also filtered. Literally made fresh. Continual fresh air was a concept I couldn't even begin to fathom so I decided to get to the bottom of the situation.
There are a limited number of these PUREwellness rooms and (to my surprise) they are actually available at many hotels throughout the world (large and small properties.)
HOW had I never heard of this???
The air filter is changed frequently and there is a machine (in the room) continuously cleaning your air, filtering out all of the impurities.
I happened to be there when the technician was changing the filters so he showed me what is actually captured in the filters and it's not pretty!
When I checked-in the bellman explained the process to me and then said "It's like going to the mountains and breathing in the fresh air. You'll see that you sleep better too."
Would I? It turns out, I did!
I followed my normal routine, work, work, walk around a bit, work and then sleep.
I slept for hours, 12 of them to be exact and I wasn't suffering from jet-lag, hadn't stayed out late, nothing out of the ordinary.
I woke up well rested and energized but was really looking forward to day two to see if I could repeat my new found sleep pattern and (surprisingly) I did!
I can't really attribute it to anything but the air quality and in the subsequent days (in various other hotels) I was back to my non-sleeping self.
Would I recommend a PUREwellness room? Absolutely.
I would also stay at the Galaxy Hotel for all kinds of reasons, namely the staff.
I can't name them all but each hotel employee I came into contact with went above and beyond to make me feel like a guest who was not only welcomed but there was a familiarity that I appreciate and I am always (and have said for years) of the mindset that good service can make or break a hotel.
The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the center and that was perfect for me. I liked being away from the noise but was close enough to grab a quick coffee.
The breakfast was outstanding and absolutely NOT to be missed and the pool was lovely.
Escape to the pool and you won't remember that you're in the middle of a populated city, have a cocktail then go back to your room and breathe the fresh air in a PUREwellness room.
You'll thank me... I promise you that.
To see where there is a PUREwellness room in a city you may be traveling to in the future visit their site or to purchase your own unit (yes, this is a thing that can actually be done!) you can read all of the specifics HERE.
